Pottery completely absorbs in the moment. Time stands still, and your mind becomes quiet. It’s a special experience to shape a bowl or dish from a lump of clay with your own hands.

Ceramics, or fired earth, is a material with its own rules. Patience and craftsmanship are essential – qualities far removed from today’s love of short-lived, speedily-achieved effects. This workshop offers an intensive introduction to this vibrant craft.

 

Experience description

‘Day of Clay’ is an intensive workshop that introduces you to many different aspects of working with clay in just one day.ProgramReception: Start the day with coffee and tea.Morning: Focus on turning on the potter’s wheel.  Following a brief overview of the long history of pottery and recent innovations in ceramics, Brigitte will demonstrate basic pottery techniques. You will then work on your own electric potter’s wheel.Lunch: Around noon you will enjoy a communal organic lunch served, of course, on handmade dinnerware.Afternoon: Focus on hand molding. Using the platen press and various molds, you’ll create your own bowl or vase. You’ll also decorate your work with engobes and stencils.At the end of the afternoon, we’ll raise our glasses together and reflect on this productive day.At the end of the day, you’ll choose your two best pieces to be glazed and fired. These will be sent to you within two to three weeks, providing a lasting memory of the experience. International shipping is available at an additional cost.
