‘Flat as a pancake’ is the phrase often used to describe the Dutch landscape. That is correct for a large part of the country, certainly for the provinces North and South-Holland, but in the center, the east and the south-east of the Netherlands there are some quite hilly parts.
Hiking through beautiful Dutch nature, being outside the whole day, rain or sun, it’s always fun.

Description of the tour: Hiking the Low Countries
Hike • distance between 12 or 20 km • Group size (1-3) • €100.00 pp
We meet at train station Hilversum (20 minutes from Amsterdam Central Station), from where we will begin our hike. Don’t worry about taking food or drinks. I will take you to some surprising places for coffee/tea and lunch (all inclusive, as are small refreshments like water, etc).
For the first few kilometers we will be walking through the beautiful Hilversum forest and over fields of heather with 4000 year old burial mounds. As you cross the heather fields, you feel as though you are traversing the Savannah. By the end of our hike I hope to have shown you the breathtaking beauty of what we Dutch very grandly call “Our Dutch Slopes”.
The hike takes a whole day and may vary between 12 and 20 km depending on your wishes and physical well-being. The distance does not affect the price. The only thing you need to take care of is the right hiking shoes and appropriate clothing.
Hike with overnight stay: € 200,- pp

I am a dancer and dance teacher by profession but hiking and the outdoors is my greatest passion. I enjoy long-distance hiking. If possible, I pick wild flowers and herbs along the way which I use for making tea or as a seasoning.
“Nothing is more beautiful than after a solid day’s walking to settle down in a beautiful location, enjoying the evening light and spending the night in a tent.
